FoodCloud CEO Statement March 28, 2020
“We are now in a two week period, minimum, where our behaviour and movements will be restricted and we foresee an unprecedented shift in the need for food distribution across communities, unlike anything we have experienced before. I acknowledge the enormous effort of the Government, our stakeholders, community and business partners. But we need to do more. We urgently appeal for accelerated support in terms of food and funding to ensure our services, and the supply chain for food distribution is sustained during this pandemic.No-one should go hungry during the Covid-19 pandemic. We need to come together at a time when we are forced to be apart,to ensure that every member of our society has access to good food.”-Iseult Ward, CEO, FoodCloud
FoodCloud’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic following the latest announcements by Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD.
Maintaining operations for our 500+ charity partners
The FoodCloud team endeavors to support the national effort to provide food to communities across Ireland during this difficult time. At normal capacity, FoodCloud supports the delivery of over 160,000 meals equivalent weekly to +500 Charities and Community Groups across Ireland.
Our focus for the past 10 days has been on ensuring we are set up to continue delivering these services. Maintaining transport, warehouse and delivery operations in adherence of social distancing guidelines has become increasingly complex and in the immediate term we are hiring 4 new warehouse operatives thanks to the support of our AIB Funding partnership.
Stepping Up Our Operations
In anticipation of new restrictions that have now been put in place on March 27th 2020 by Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD, we have been preparing to meet the additional demand for food parcels by establishing new strategic partnerships with community organisations who continue to support the ever-changing needs of individual communities. In particular, these organisations are supporting families whose children normally get free school meals, the elderly with underlying health conditions and those who need to self-isolate during this phase of cocooning.
We are working to secure a consistent supply of ambient food and essential products whilst increasing our capacity across our operational teams.
We are working closely with the food industry and our network of community organisations to ensure the infrastructure is in place to deliver the food directly to the households that need it.
How You Can Support
We are now in a two week period, minimum, where our behaviour and movements will be restricted and we foresee an unprecedented shift in the need for food distribution across communities, unlike anything we have experienced before.
We acknowledge the enormous effort of our stakeholders, community partners, business partners and Government but we urgently need to appeal for accelerated support to ensure our services and the supply chain for food distribution is sustained during this pandemic.
Our emergency response efforts will be in addition to our day-to-day activities and we are now appealing for food and funding support to meet the growing demand.
Please get in touch if you can support us with:
Donating long life ambient food products and essential items for hampers that can be delivered directly to people’s homes.
Funding to support additional food, transport and logistics costs.
Funding to support increased operational costs in our warehouses.
No-one should go hungry during the Covid-19 pandemic. As a nation we are in uncharted territory and although we may not be able to do all that is necessary, we must try and do all that is possible. The next few weeks will demand an unprecedented increase in terms of food, resourcing, equipment, transportation and logistics.
We need to come together at a time when we are forced to be apart, to ensure that every member of our society has access to good food.

FoodCloud’s Response to Covid-19
March 19, 2020
At FoodCloud we are focused now more than ever on ensuring that we are supporting our network of +500 community groups.
We have been working hard since the crisis started to ensure we are well positioned to maintain our operations and to understand where and how best we can direct our activities.
Our three national food distribution warehouses (Cork, Galway & Dublin) remain open and our drivers are on the road. Our immediate need is to increase resourcing within our three warehouses. We are hiring four new warehouse roles with immediate effect.
Our ability to upscale our operations at this challenging time is as a direct result of the additional capacity and financial security provided by our multi-year partnership with AIB and Social Innovation Fund Ireland Growth Fund, which has been established by the Department of Rural and Community Development from the Dormant Accounts Fund. We would like to thank them sincerely for their ongoing support.
How You Can Support
We have had an overwhelming positive response from partner organisations offering to support FoodCloud and our charity partners over recent days and we are so grateful for this.
The key areas that we need support with right now are:
Support with Food:
Donations of surplus food have seen a significant decrease since the beginning of this crisis. While some community groups are reducing services or closing, others are in urgent need of more food and essential items. Our community groups are especially looking for ambient and packaged food as they want to supply food parcels to those who are self-isolating within communities.
If you are a food business or company that can supply these essential items please get in touch with our team [email protected]
If you are in a position to provide financial support for the purchasing of food and essential items please contact [email protected]
Support with Funding:
Our services are required now more than ever and we are operating in an increasingly complex environment. We need additional funding during this time to ensure we can continue to safely provide food to those in need and also scale up our operations where necessary.
Your donation will help us get good food to vulnerable people, via a nationwide network of charities and community groups working on the frontline. Funding will be directed towards recruitment of temporary warehouse resources, transport costs for food and essential items into our hubs and to charities, hygiene materials and resources.
