FoodCloud are excited to announce that we will be hosting a series of ‘Surplus to Spectacular’ food waste awareness dining events all over Ireland this year kindly supported by the Dept of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s Rural Innovation Development Fund. The events will serve to highlight the environmental impact of food waste and give an understanding of what can be done to reduce it.
The first of these will take place on Saturday April 18th as part of the West Waterford Festival of Food which runs in Dungarvan from the 16th to the 19th of April. FoodCloud will host the event at the beautiful Two Sisters restaurant and zero waste chef Conor Spacey, Culinary Director of Food Space will be creating an incredible feast using surplus food from FoodCloud’s warehouse in Cork.
We are all so aware that perfection can be the enemy in the fight against food waste, but we also have seen the power of communities coming together to change behaviours in how we value our food. And no one knows this better than Conor, who is the Irish representative for the Chefs’ Manifesto, a collective of more than 130 chefs from 38 countries working together to achieve a more sustainable food system.
We will also be running a children’s workshop during the day, aimed at 8-11 year olds to highlight how we can all make positive changes around food waste at home. These events are kindly supported by the Dept. of Agriculture, Food and the Marine to promote reducing food waste generated by food businesses, retailer/wholesalers or suppliers in rural areas. Tickets for the events will be available from March 18th from the West Waterford Food Festival website and the events will be locally promoted so watch this space!
