FoodCloud were delighted to attend the European Food Bank Federation’s Annual Convention 2019 in Rome, where FoodCloud were honoured to formally become an official FEBA member.
Iseult, Aoibheann, and Emma travelled to Rome along with more than 100 other European food bankers to take part in the three-day event.
The first day of the convention, held at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) headquarters was themed Working Together to Achieve SDG 12.3 – Concrete Actions Preventing Food Waste. The event’s focus was on how food banks could achieve the target of “halving per-capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses” by working together in the coming decade.
The second and third day of the convention focused on Connecting Global Impacts with Local Actions and was made up of working groups and plenary sessions. Emma hosted one of the working groups, which focused on the retail sector.
The convention finished up with attendees doing a tour of the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel, and FoodCloud and other food banks attending a private audience with His Holiness Pope Francis.
