FoodCloud and AIB Celebrate 5,000 Volunteer Hours!


FoodCloud and AIB are delighted to celebrate the incredible milestone of 5,000 AIB volunteer hours logged since our partnership commenced in 2018. Over 700 AIB employees have generously given their time to support FoodCloud across one of our three hubs in Galway, Cork and Dublin. 

AIB has been working with FoodCloud since it introduced its new community programme ‘AIB Together’ in 2018. Delivering social impact is a key pillar of the AIB Together programme  and as part of the initiative, each AIB employee is entitled to two volunteering days per year. Employees can volunteer with their chosen charity and, to date, over 700 AIB employees have generously given their time to support FoodCloud across one of our three hubs in Galway, Cork and Dublin. 

The AIB teams have supported across a variety of volunteering roles, from sorting and packing surplus food orders, helping to hand deliver food to the doors of charities and community groups to fulfilling orders for FEAD and most recently supporting FoodCloud through a series Gleaning and skilled volunteering events.

FEAD Programme

AIB volunteers have had a huge impact in particular in supporting the packing and distribution of items for The EU Funded FEAD (Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived) Programme. The FEAD programme benefits more than 150 charities across Ireland, providing them with quality food packs to give to those who may not have storage or cooking facilities. AIB’s support is allowing us to reach more individuals than ever.

Before AIB volunteers started helping with our FEAD orders we were only able to process about five orders per week. With the enthusiasm and energy the volunteers bring, we’re now able to fulfill up to 20 orders per week - almost a 300% increase. They are a vital part of our operational success.

AIB and FoodCloud Hackathon


In June 2019, we ran a pilot hackathon with the AIB’s Enterprise Change Team. Groups of volunteers spent the day blue-sky thinking and analysing some future strategic decisions for FoodCloud, giving  AIB volunteers a deeper understanding of how we operate, and giving FoodCloud innovative ideas and insights to support us into the future.



FoodCloud and AIB hit the fields for the 2019 gleaning season with Meade Potato Company and Ballymakenny Farm. Gleaning is the ancient act of collecting crops left behind on the field during the harvest. FoodCloud and AIB volunteers supported the rescue of over 2 tonnes of fresh carrots, broccoli, potatoes and onions which have been redistributed to charity partners all over the country.

AIB volunteers have had such a significant impact so far and we’re proud to see the ripple effect of their kindness in communities around the country. Donating their time to FoodCloud allows us to reach even more individuals and save even more food from going to waste.  

A huge thank you to AIB, who committed to investing €500,000 per annum in FoodCloud for three years, in addition to directly investing €100,000 into FoodCloud volunteer programme. AIB’s funding has been further supported by financial and non-financial supports to the value of €330,000 per annum for three years from Social Innovation Fund Ireland’s new Growth Fund, which was established by the Department of Rural and Community Development from the Dormant Accounts Fund.
