Technological University Dublin’s Saint Vincent de Paul society is thrilled to work with FoodCloud for our weekly Pantry! Since November 2024, we have been running a weekly pantry for TU Dublin students in Grangegorman and have recently expanded the project to our Blanchardstown campus.
Who We Are
We are a university society who run a pantry that all students can avail of. Our Pantry is a student-run initiative, where student volunteers organise, promote and distribute the surplus food. During a cost of living crisis, FoodCloud has removed some of the financial burden of providing this service.
Many students juggle work with full time studies. They’re also paying for expensive accommodation
or spending hours commuting, and many may be doing unpaid placements. So our Pantry has benefitted a lot of students and taken some stress off their shoulders. We provide a diverse range of food options, from fresh produce and pantry staples to confectionery. Our selection is inclusive, offering Halal, lactose-free, gluten-free, vegan, and nut-free products, as well as protein-rich and nutritious choices that cater to all dietary needs.
TU Dublin is also committed to sustainability and this partnership with FoodCloud has allowed us to
be more sustainable, while helping as many students as possible. With our plans to expand our
outreach to every campus, the pantry staples that arrive each week have been central in our mission
to ensure that no TU Dublin student goes hungry just to get an education.
Our Community
Thanks to the success of this Pantry, so many students have joined our team. From four volunteers we have now grown to a team of more than twenty! Together with students and staff, we have created our own warm-hearted community here at TU Dublin.
‘’As I was starting to revive the SVP Society at the start of 2023, I was quickly made aware of the needs of students which I was completely ignorant of. I was told there were a few homeless students on my campus which completely baffled me. I hadn't realised there was such a great disparity among the hardships that students face, not just the difficulty trying to study and figure out what they will do with their lives but also not knowing whether they will be able to afford a meal or even find somewhere to live. I had heard about FoodCloud during my internship at Toast while volunteering for their non-profit Toast.org so they were on my mind to partner with. The guidance and support we received from them helped me believe it was something that could succeed.’’ One of our founders, Alan O’ Regan.
Award-winning
Our Pantry won the Board of Irish Colleges (BICS) - Best Green Initiative. TU Dublin Food Pantry. We are also a finalist in the UK and Ireland Green Gown Awards for Creating Student Engagement. We are so happy we have joined FoodCloud’s network and will continue our beneficial collaboration to reduce food wastage and help students.
