Growers'
Project

FoodCloud are the national delivery partner for the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) programme nationwide.

What is the Growers Project?

The Growers' Project is a small project we have been trialing where we contribute towards the costs of getting the produce to us, for those growers that are not in a financial position to donate to us for free (targeted at primary producers).

In 2023 and 2024, we ran a pilot with 7 growers to test how it could work and if we were able to access a more consistent supply of vegetables to our charity partners as a result of it.

This also had to be balanced with the capacity of the charity partners to receive large quantities of vegetables. We have continued this project in 2025 with limited funding and are reviewing how this could be implemented long-term.

How does the project work?

Who can be part of the project?

Any grower who has Grade II/surplus produce can be part of the project.

If you have this type of produce, please contact growersproject@foodcloud.ie for more information. We would be delighted to receive any donations free of charge from producers but we recognise that it is not always financially viable to do so.

What sort of produce can be supplied/is available?

We are working with our charity partners to secure produce that they will easily be able to use or distribute in their communities but can consider any fruit or vegetables that a producer may have available.

How does a community organisation get involved?

The vegetables are available in our warehouses together with the surplus food that has been donated by food producers throughout Ireland.

In 2024, our community groups were able to access 235 tonnes of vegetables through this project.

How is it funded?

We have been supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine since 2022. In 2024-2025, we were also supported with EU funding through Cultivate and by funding from philanthropic partners: Church of the Latter Day Saints, Deliveroo, Support and Feed, the Quinn Family Foundation and Life’s Too Good.
