The Iveagh Hostel: A Place of Safety and Care Since 1905

In the heart of Dublin, the Iveagh Hostel has been a refuge for men experiencing homelessness for over a century. Opened in 1905, it remains the largest hostel in Ireland, offering 195 single rooms that provide not just shelter, but dignity and security. Its ethos of care and compassion is as strong today as it was on the day its doors first opened.

The Hostel holds a unique place in the city’s social fabric and within The Iveagh Trust. It is more than a building, it is a lifeline for those facing temporary homelessness. Our proud heritage is rooted in practical solutions to real needs, and our future vision is clear: to preserve this legacy while continuing to offer safety, warmth, and hope for generations to come.

For the men who stay there, a room is just the beginning. They need a clean, safe space, nourishing meals, and a caring heart and a listening ear. This is the tradition we honour and the future we strive to build.

Partnering for Impact

To make this vision possible, The Iveagh Trust is proud to work with partners who share our commitment to care. One of those valued partners is FoodCloud. For the past two years, our kitchen team has received weekly deliveries of food and beverages through FoodCloud, helping us serve several meals a day to residents.

This partnership makes a real difference. By reducing costs and stretching our kitchen budget, we can provide high-quality, tasty, and nourishing meals—every item we receive is used and appreciated. We are deeply grateful for FoodCloud’s support, which helps us continue our mission of care in a sustainable way.

Together, we are building a future where the Iveagh Hostel remains what it has always been: a place of safety, welcome, and compassion
