Community Corner: TU Dublin

The newest addition to the TU Dublin pantry network has launched with a remarkable impact, proving that a strategic approach to student welfare can yield immediate results. Every Wednesday, a dedicated team of student volunteers gathers to stock shelves and prep the space, earning valuable hours toward their annual President’s Awards in the process. When the doors open every Thursday, students are greeted not just with a collection of supplies, but with a shopping experience that prioritises personal choice.

Key Highlights of the Initiative

Strategic Launch: The "bang" start was powered by a unique collaboration with Advertising and Marketing students. They conducted research-led branding to ensure the campaign focused on dignity and community rather than "charity."
Record Engagement: Thanks to this student-led marketing effort, the pantry welcomed over 150 visitors on its very first day.
Social Integration: Beyond its weekly operations, the pantry was a focal point during the university’s Social Justice Week, highlighting its role in broader advocacy.

More Than a Resource

This pantry isn't just about food - it’s about connection. By involving marketing students in the branding and volunteers in the operations, the initiative has become a hub for campus engagement. It provides a practical solution to food insecurity while fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect among the student body.

“By bringing together students from different courses and groups, we’ve shifted the focus from just providing food to building real human connection. It’s incredibly rewarding to see students not only accessing a resource but finding a space where they feel seen, respected and part of a supportive community.”
- Jacqueline Kelleher
