FoodCloud is delighted to announce that we have been selected as an SDG Champion for the 2025–2027 programme, joining a group of organisations committed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ireland and beyond. As part of the programme, we will share how our work contributes to the delivery of the SDGs and supports their integration into everyday practice.
The SDG Champions Programme, established in 2019, aims to raise public awareness of the 17 SDGs and to demonstrate that progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development requires action from all sectors of society.
Adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals provide a shared framework for addressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and sustainable economic growth. Central to the SDGs is the recognition that social, environmental, and economic progress must be pursued together.
Our work aligns closely with this integrated approach. By working across the food supply chain, including farmers, food producers, retailers, and more than 700 charities and community groups, we ensure that surplus food is redirected to communities where it is needed most, creating value for all stakeholders involved.
Our mission is to ensure that no good food goes to waste, with food redistribution at the heart of our work. This contributes most directly to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). At the same time, we recognise the interconnected nature of all 17 Goals and the importance of addressing them together.
Technology plays a key role in enabling access to surplus food. Our custom-built redistribution platform, Foodiverse, connects businesses with surplus food to charities and community groups through a digital system. Businesses upload details of available food, and local organisations receive notifications to collect it.
Since 2013 FoodCloud has redistributed the equivalent of over 339 million meals, saving 425,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions going to waste, across 6 counties. This scalable model is already delivering significant international impact, including in Kenya, where the equivalent of 5.6 million meals have been redistributed in just over two years.
Alongside redistribution, FoodCloud focuses on education and capacity building through the FoodCloud Academy. Programmes such as Thrive Together provide practical tools, courses, and workshops that support retailers, community groups, and individuals to reduce food waste and strengthen their local food systems.
Through our work with businesses, charities, and volunteers, we support efforts to address food waste, hunger, inequality, and climate impact, while promoting responsible production and consumption and building long-term partnerships.
We are very proud to have been selected as an SDG Champion for 2025-2027 and look forward to working alongside other Champions to support the continued integration of the SDGs into organisational and community action.
